Before starting your trip, you can ask your insurance company about the entry requirements of the destination country – what documents are needed, are there any mandatory vaccinations, etc. Home emergencies while travelling are also covered by insurance.
You don’t have to pay for the trip if you can’t go on it for a valid reason. The reason does not have to be directly related to you. If your loved one or your pet falls ill or has an accident, you can cancel your trip without bearing any costs. Nor will you have to pay any fees if an unexpected, extraordinary event – such as an earthquake or flood – prevents or jeopardises your trip.
Personal assistance includes medical aid and travel assistance. The first applies to emergency treatment, where the insurance company provides appropriate medical aid and covers medical expenses for both inpatient and outpatient treatment. Travel assistance provides protection against transport means malfunctions that may cause delays or a premature return to the country.
Vehicle assistance provides support in case of a breakdown, collision or damage caused by natural forces that may occur while you travel by your own vehicle. The type of vehicle has no relevance, as the insurance is valid in all countries recognising the international insurance card.
Before a short stay abroad, hardly anyone gives much thought to local law. Also, command of the destination country’s language is rarely enough to successfully defend oneself in a legal dispute at the place of the event. Suppose you are involved in a traffic accident abroad. In that case, travel legal assistance supports you with all legal issues and troubles. The same applies if, for example, you get scammed by a hotel abroad.
Damage, theft and delays during luggage transport (e.g. to the destination airport) are insured. All related costs are reimbursed.
It is often practical to rent a car only after arriving at the destination. If you have an accident involving a rental car, travel insurance will allow you to pay the deductible indicated in the vehicle rental contract. The type of claim and vehicle does not matter (car, bicycle, motor boat, pontoon, etc.).
